SYNOPSIS
Buildings consume up to 40% of the total global energy. By the year 2030, the consumption is expected to increase to 50%. In Malaysia, buildings consume a total of 48% of the electricity generated in the country. Electricity generation will contribute to the carbon footprint of the country. As an Electrical Engineer, we play an important role to ensure that the building is ‘sustainable’ from the Design until the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Stage.
In this talk, the speaker will share briefly with the audiences on the various approaches an Electrical Engineer can contribute to sustainable building during different life cycles of the building, i.e. Design, Construction and Operation and Maintenance. Different approaches can be taken during various stages by an Electrical Engineer to ensure that energy consumption and carbon footprint of the building is minimized. The speaker will also share some of the current challenges faced by the Electrical Engineers on the implementation of sustainable approaches.
