SYNOPSIS

This technical visit will cover:

Presentation on Solar Energy in Singapore

Solar photovoltaics (PV) is the most viable form of renewable energy for Singapore, and capable of supplying over 10% of the nation's electricity supply. The market developed rather slowly at first, starting in 2008 with a handful of government-supported showcase projects on public buildings such as the Marina Barrage, Changi Airport and some HDB blocks.
The presentation will illustrate some projects funded by CERT (Clean Energy Research and Test bedding) as well as some Green Mark examples. It will explain current project economics and returns on investment.

Singapore Marina Barrage (Sustainable Singapore Gallery)
The Sustainable Singapore Gallery (SSG) is an information and sensory extravaganza showcasing Singapore's efforts towards Environmental sustainability. Explore six galleries, each sharing a unique aspect of Singapore's sustainable story. Uncover, through fun interactive and innovative multimedia, how a small country with limited resources meets the needs of a fast developing community in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Gardens by the Bay @ Marina South
Gardens by the Bay bring to life NParks' vision of creating a City in a Garden. The Gardens captures the essence of Singapore as the premier tropical  Garden City with the perfect environment in which to live and work - making Singapore a leading global city of the 21st century.

Environmentally Sustainable Functions of the Super-trees
Eleven of the Super trees are embedded with environmentally sustainable functions. Some have photovoltaic cells on their canopies to harvest solar energy for lighting up the Super trees, while others are integrated with the Conservatories and serve as air exhaust receptacles.

PUB Changi Water Reclamation Plant
The Changi Water Reclamation Plant is the cornerstone of the first phase of the Singapore Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS). Sited on 32 hectares of reclaimed land, CWRP features a state-of-the-art, compact and covered used water treatment facility designed to treat 800,000 cubic metres per day of used water. It can be expanded to handle an ultimate 2,400,000 cubic metres per day of used water.

Bedok - NeWater Visitor Centre
The NEWater Visitor Centre is the focal point of PUB's public education on NEWater. First opened in 2003, the Centre highlights the importance of water and how Singapore leverages on advances in technology to reclaim water. Visitors are able to view first-hand the operation of the advanced dual-membrane and ultraviolet technologies used to produce NEWater. Admission to the centre is free.
NEWater Visitor Centre's popularity has won it the Best Sightseeing/Leisure/Educational Programme at the 20th Tourism Awards 2005 and the IWA Marketing & Communication Award 2006.
