SYNOPSIS

All submitting engineers need to register as Professional Engineers with a Practising Certificate, in order to submit engineering plans to the local building authorities in Malaysia, as stipulated in the Registration of Engineers Act 1967. (Revised 2015) To apply for a Practising Certificate, Professional Engineers must sit and pass the Professional Competency Examination (PCE) in his relevant branch of practice. The Professional Competency Examination (PCE) will be conducted by Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) pursuant to Section 38A of the Registration of Engineers Act 1967. (Revised 2015)

The PCE will test the candidates’ knowledge, experience and application of the four (4) main aspects, which are the
(1) regulations/rules of engineering practice by BEM,
(2) statutory laws/codes/regulations,
(3) standards of professionalism & ethical behaviour imposed by BEM and finally
(4) the technical core competency in respective engineering discipline.

The main objective of this talk is to discuss and share on the information regarding the preparation for the above mentioned examination, particularly the mechanical engineering discipline.  Key sharing such as the technical knowledge and industry experience relevant to the above mentioned PCE shall be further discussed in this talk. The candidates that had registered to sit for the PCE and the professional engineers that plan to sit for the above mentioned exam in future, are encourage to attend the talk and share their views or feedbacks regarding the preparation of PCE.


BIODATA OF Mentors

Ir. Loo Chee Kin is a Senior Consultant with Global Risk Consultants (GRC) and before that he was a Senior Engineering Specialist with FM Global for some 12 years. He has more than 20 year engineering experience, from design to field work. He graduated from UMIST, Manchester, UK with a B.Eng in Electromechanical Systems Engineering and prior to that a Diploma in Electromechanical Systems Engineering from Kota Bharu Polytechnic in Kota Bharu, Malaysia. He is a P.Eng in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a Member of IEM. He is a Member of IMechE and IEE, and registered C.Eng. He is an active committee member in the IEM, the current Chairman of METD, Chairman of Disaster Risk Reduction Advisory Board (DRRAB), member in the Fire Advisory Board (FAB) as well as various Sub-Committees and Boards. He had written few articles in the IEM monthly bulletin, Jurutera.

Ir. Soong Peng Soon graduated from University of Malaya in year 1984 and has more than 34 years in the design, manufacturing, construction, testing, operation; operation & maintenance of HVAC system and M&E components. He is highly regarded for his wide hands-on experience from design, start-up to operation of many prestigious projects. He is an ASHRAE certified Commissioning Process Management Professional and a GBI certified Commissioning Specialist (CxS), currently verifying performance of many green or high performance buildings including several iconic projects. His contribution in successful evaluation of building performance with exceptional analytical instrument, skills & technique has defined his leading role in this field.

Mr. Raghib Fasih Azmi, Grad. IEM has more than 20 years of experience in the elevator and escalator industry. He has served various capacities in sales, installation, maintenance and general management for leading lift companies both locally as well as overseas. Engr. Raghib Fasih Azmi, (Grad. IEM) has served in the SIRIM Working Group on Lifts and Escalators and has been actively involved in the development of MS2021 for lifts and MS1918 for escalators. He has been actively serving IEM in various committees since 1993.
