SYNOPSIS
TNB has embarked on Distribution Automation Project as part of its initiatives to reduce System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), provide high reliability of supply and improve service quality since 2006. To date, Distribution Automation (DA) Project has installed Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) facilities and commissioned over 9,000 substations in 11 kV networks in Peninsular Malaysia. This has enabled better visibility to Control Engineers at Control Centres to monitor and perform remote control and restore electricity supply quickly in the event of an unscheduled power outage, thus reducing the duration of outage as measured by SAIDI.
DA Project focuses mainly in highly-sensitive & important areas, Central Business Districts (CDBs) & Industrial zones in major cities. DA Project enables remote monitoring & control of network assets to improve SAIDI and CAIDI. It is implemented to provide fast & efficient supply restoration in the event of supply interruption. DA Project utilises SCADA-ready field equipment such as Motorised RMU, VCB, Compact Substations, Auto-reclosers and Fault monitoring devices such as Earth Faults Indicators (EFIs) & Line Fault Indicators (LFIs) to provide the remote monitoring & control facilities to the Regional Control Centres (RCCs).
