SYNOPSIS
Endau-Rompin National Park is one of the oldest lowland tropical rainforest in the world and features some of the oldest rock formations. It is situated south of the state of Pahang's Lesong forest reserve and to the northeast of Johor's Labis and Endau Mas forest reserves covering an approximate area of 870 km², making it is the second largest national park in Peninsular Malaysia. The park contains the largest remaining population of the threatened Sumatran rhinoceros species. Gunung Besar which is the second highest in Johor is located in the park.
The park has rich and exotic flora and fauna, home to a vast species of birds, mammals, amphibians, insects and exotic varieties of orchids, herbs, medicinal plants, trees and the endemic fan palm encompassing the watershed of the rivers Endau and Rompin. Trekking through the jungle will give adventurers opportunity to sight the leaf monkeys, long-tail macaques, white-handed gibbons, elephants, deer, tapirs and the occasional wildlife. For adventure lovers and river trekkers, there are the exhilarating rapids and waterfalls.
