a) Synopsis on Some Unorthodox & Down-to-Earth Approaches in Engineering Practice

The speaker draws from his long working experience to highlight how in various situations he had employed unorthodox ways, departing from conventional wisdom, to find practical and effective solutions to resolve issues and problems faced in the design office and the work site.

Biodata of Speaker
Ir. TV Lim graduated from UM in 1976 with a BEng degree in civil engineering. He is a member of IEM since 1982. He has more than 40 years of experience in building construction, civil engineering & property development. He is currently a business owner of an engineering firm involved in rock blasting, quarrying operation, and highway & dam construction.

b) Synopsis of Traipsing Down the Mine-fields of the Law An Engineer’s Survival Kit

Engineers are rigorously inculcated with the principles of science and mathematics, answerable to the laws of nature. But every now and then, the unwary engineer would be caught on the wrong foot, tripped up by man-made laws prior knowledge of or familiarity with which he did not have, and which nonetheless stare him in the face, posing palpable threat to his economic and professional well-being. This talk deals with certain basic legal principles that often confound the uninitiated. It is intended to be wide-ranging and to be interactive; the audience should engage in & contribute to the discussion, based on their own work experience.

Biodata of Speaker

Ir. N D Gong (FIEM, FCIArb, CEng, PEng) earned his bachelor’s & master’s degrees in civil engineering from the S’pore University in the 1970’s. He has practised as a consulting engineer and as specialist jacked-in piling contractor. Having re-trained in law, he was called to the Bar in 2006. He currently focuses on construction law, and is emplaced on the arbitrators’ panels of IEM, AIAC and MIArb and on the adjudicators’ panel of AIAC.
