SYNOPSIS
The MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line is the second of the three planned Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) lines to be constructed at the Greater Kuala Lumpur. The approved alignment is 52.2km in length, of which 13.5km is underground primarily within the downtown Kuala Lumpur. A total of 37 stations, 11 of them will be constructed underground. The proposed first section of the southern elevated alignment of KVMRT Line 2 - Southern Kuchai Lama Serdang Alignment (SKSA) interfaces with the underground alignment near the Taman Desa Water Theme Park at Kuchai Lama and ends at the UPM after crossing the MEX Highway where it is connected to the Serdang to Putrajaya Alignment (SEPA).

At one part of SKSA which is going over hilly areas, a 12.1m wide, 10.1m high and 182m long tunnel system is proposed to accommodate the twin-track railway line crossing thru the mountainous terrain comprising Kenny Hill Formation materials of interbedded weak rocks and residual soils. The tunnel will be constructed using New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) with permanent cast in-situ concrete lining. Forepole and friction bolts are selected to support the arch of the top heading around the tunnel crown as well as tunnel walls; this is coupled with steel ribs plus SFR shotcrete as temporary supports for primary lining during the mined tunnelling works.  

This technical visit is aimed to highlight the various aspects and features of the mined tunnelling works on site. It is expected that the mined tunnel has already launched into the ground for considerable lengths from the western portal during the visit.
