SYNOPSIS

Further understanding of the account report and what are the key figures to look for to prevent caught with surprises as true picture are not always actually represented.

The importance of always reading the qualifying foot notes of finance report and comparison of the past figures. As engineering is a science and accounting is an art, how shall an engineer approach it scientifically.

Second talk by Ir. Noor Iziddin would be on the appreciation the fundamental principles of accounting. Examine the accounting treatment for fixed assets – depreciation and amortization related to assets related to project. Not forget the deductions in the profit and loss account before the net profit figure. While developing and understanding of economies of scale from example in the telecom industry beside reducing fixed costs through infrastructure or network sharing projects.


BIODATA OF SPEAKERS

Ir. Noor Iziddin Abdullah Bin Haji Ghazali have almost 15 years of multiple industries experience assuming the leadership role for the following industries: - semiconductor, property development, data centre & telecommunication. Experience also as Industry Advisory Panel & Adjunct Professor at five local universities in the area of STEM.

Initially in a semiconductor with Spansion (AMD & Fujitsu JV) then MIMOS. Subsequently to data centre development at Cyberjaya for Google, Deutsche Bank, TM, NTT, Petronas, BMW, etc worth more than USD 50 million. Then attach to Mesiniaga as the Project Manager for core network using Cisco router & switches for Petronas ICT. Later with Putrajaya Holdings for development of commercial green building projects value more than USD 100 million. After that as Electrical Manager at Sunway Property overseeing the whole electrical & mechanical projects value more than USD 300 million.

Recently with edotco (Axiata Group Berhad) as the Regional Head overseeing energy-efficient projects at Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan & Cambodia using IoT & big data connected to more than 5000 telecom towers as of the year 2016. Then as Program Manager of Radio Access Network Modernization (LTE Advanced/) with Celcom vendor (Huawei & Ericsson) worth over USD 200 million in the year 2016. Now as the Vice-President and Dean of Engineering Faculty, University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UNIMY) at Putrajaya.

Ir. Tan Ban Loong (P.Eng.with Practising Certificate,M.I.E.M.) graduated from University of Aston (UK) in 1980. He is holding Bachelor Degree (Hons.) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. For the past 36 years , he has been involved in the building industry  working as Electrical Engineer in Japanese contracting firm, to starting up own contracting company and eventually a M&E consulting company.

He has managed multiple projects with involvement from tendering & bidding, design & contract management, engineering & project management, construction, procurement, sub contract, quality assurance and finance administration. He is active in NGO and charitable works and has been the Chairman of Bandar Utama Residents’ Association (BURA) from year 2004 to 2008, and Bandar Utama Buddhist Society (BUBS) Fund Raising and Construction Committee (2007-2010).

Ir. Tan Ban Loong served as Committee member of IEM Engineering Week Organising Committee from Year 2012-2016, Committee & Co-opt Member of IEM Project Management Technical Division from year 2009 to 2017, and currently contribute as Co-opt member.
