SYNOPSIS:
The Melaka Gateway Development Project initially evolved from the earlier One-Belt One-Road (OBOR) Initiative forming the New Economic Belt of the Silk Road and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It was first initiated in 2013 as a mixed development project by the master developer, KAJ Development Sdn. Bhd. (KAJD), to establish connectivity and trade opportunities along the Straits of Malacca route which is the world’s busiest trading route. It was officially launched in early February 2014 as part of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) by the Government of Malaysia as part of its economic development initiatives. The Melaka Gateway project commenced in 2015 and is targeted for completion in 2025 with an estimated gross development value of RM 42 billion, contributing to projected additional 2.5 million tourists and 45,000 additional jobs. Melaka Gateway is a premier mixed development project, which comprises three (3) reclaimed islands and one (1) natural island (Pulau Panjang), totaling 1,366 acres, set in a strategic and idyllic area of Straits of Malacca, Malaysia. Ideally located between the main hub of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, as well as within the vibrancy of the Melaka city’s commercial centre, this project will catapult this heritage city as a world-class integrated investment, tourism and commercial development icon. Island 1 - Tourism, Entertainment, Commercial & Property Development: Melaka International Cruise Terminal and Ferry Terminal, Private Gateway Marina, Ferris Wheel, Shopping Mall, Entertainment Precincts and a world-class Theme Park Cultural Heritage Village, Walkway Boulevard, fashion and retail brands, Health and Wellness lifestyle, Education Centre, Gateway Beacon (288m) Tower Island 2 - Free Trade Economic Zone: Banks, Financial Institutions, trading, Offshore Financial Hub, International Integrated Logistics services provider Specialized business services, support and shared services High-Technology Park, Halal Park, International zone for foreign nationals / entities Island 3 - Melaka Gateway Port (Pulau Panjang) (Deep Sea Port): With Storage facilities and Liquid Cargo Terminal Benefiting oil trading in Southeast Asia, Asian countries, Europe and the Middle East Capable of receiving the largest of deep sea-going vessels.
