SYNOPSIS
Telecommunication Operators spend millions if not billions to build out robust and reliable telecommunication networks to serve us. The cost of building these infrastructure will need to be recouped somewhere. It is through reliable charging and billing to the consumers that telecommunication operators recoup most of the initial capital outlay. While it may seem simple from a consumer point of view how bills are paid and vouchers are bought, telecommunication companies had to overcome many institutional and technological challenges to simplify the process of charging and billing for consumers. Here, we will delve into the technical distinction between prepaid and postpaid billing. We discuss why things were done that way and how the future of telecommunication billing should look like.
