The infrastructure construction industry is slowly evolving from recording information using documents and drawings, which are paper-based, to adoption of computer technologies and a shift from electronic documents and drawings (file-based) through to digital data. This presentation looks at how owners need to look beyond now and past the horizon and how digital information tools such as BIM can assist in reducing lifecycle costs in caring for the asset.

Common data environment (CDE), or the Connected Data Environment… the buzzword we are hearing all the time… what we should know is that its main objective is to provide the single source of information for the whole project. And it is providing us the capabilities for the model sharing across the project teams.
In the traditional process, information is being exchanged randomly across the team, without any specific control on the information release and approval. Mails, dropbox or other uncontrolled services are being used. The new concept is that the information is coordinated centrally and verified before the other team members can use it within their own environment.
So the Common data environment is divided into the Company internal part, the so called Work in Progress Area. And every team component will have its own WIP area. Company External part of the CDE is composed by the Shared, the Published and the Archived Area.
The main advantages of the CDE are that the teams can work together on the same information in a collaborative manner, and the information can ba tracked and validated at any time. This will lead to the improved efficiency and productivity but will also reduce the overall risk for everybody.

Speaker 1 - Ir. Gandhi Suppiah graduated with a 1st Class Honours in Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering degree from University of East London, UK in 1995, holding a Master of Science in Engineering and Computing from oxford Brookes, UK in 2002 and MBA from Durham University, UK in 2017. He has been in the engineering profession for more than 25 years. He is a Chartered Engineer with broad knowledge of bridges and other civil structures. He has also wide knowledge and experience of building structures, particularly in restressed precast concrete buildings.
Ir. Gandhi leads the Asset Management Department at Opus International in the Far East. He is responsible for the delivery of maintenance engineering schemes in Asia Pacific network, both highways and the built environment. He is responsible for the technical assurance and governance of highway assets and the best practice on design, construction, management and maintenance of more than 1000 km transportation assets with asset value exceeding £1.0billion. In London he was responsible for managing design, construction, management and maintenance of more than 1800 highway structures and bridges assets on the Transport for London Road network with an asset value exceeding £4.0billion.
Speaker 2 – Mr. Ravi Koka - An Engineer by profession, with a track records of over 25 years. Ravi has a blend of experience in Oil & Gas Industry, Information Technology Consulting and Implementation of Enterprise Applications.
