SYNOPSIS

The Proposed Lot 185, 167, 176 Mixed Development, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), will be developed on a land area of 4.231 acres, next to KLCC Twin Tower. The mixed development consists of 56-storey hotel tower on Lot 185 and 77-storey office tower on Lot 167, 6-storey retail podium and 4-6 level basement car parks. Currently, the semi-top down sub-structure construction is about to finish and the constructions of the 6-storey retail podium, hotel tower and office tower are scheduled to start soon.  The site is located on Limestone bedrock and the design work involved deep excavation of 21.5m – 25.5m below ground level that exposed the residual soils of Kenny Hill Formation. The sides are supported by reinforced concrete diaphragm walls of 1.0 m thick and 33.0m deep. The 56-story tower will be supported by 2.0 m and 2.2 m diameter bored piles of 75.0 m long in soil with working loads of 42 MN and 50 MN. One reaction system pile load test and an Osterberg-cell load test on fully instrumented bored piles were conducted at this site. The talk touches on the substructure design of the diaphragm wall and soil-structure interaction design of bored piles. The predicted versus observed movements of the diaphragm wall is also discussed.
