SYNOPSIS
Blockchain is a foundational technology which will eventually disrupt every aspect of society. Several countries and sectors have initiated plans and implementation of Blockchain. Some institutions, international platforms and regional organisations foresee a need for cooperation and collaboration in implementing this technology across borders or across business functions. The European Union which comprises 28 member countries is planning for an EU-wide Blockchain infrastructure. The G20 countries have stated in a position paper that Blockchain is the key to integrating other emerging technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Blockchain today is what the World Wide Web was in the early 1990s. The World Wide Web brought the Internet of Information. Blockchain brings the Internet of Value. The talk will provide an overview of Blockchain plans and trends in several countries and regions, a brief coverage of the Blockchain technology itself, some use cases in several key sectors like finance and supply chain, and recommendations for our way ahead. The talk will emphasise on the need and urgency for Malaysia to act on developing policy and strategic direction for Blockchain in Malaysia. The talk also will highlight the correct mindset in assessing and implementing Blockchain opportunities.
While Blockchain is the underlying technology behind Bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies, the talk will NOT cover cryptocurrencies.
