SYNOPSIS

In the engineering project, there are many parties involved, involving initiation, planning, organizing, scheduling, executing, monitoring and control.  

Project managers must understand several basic principles of project cost management to be effective in managing project cost. Important concepts include profits and profit margins, life cycle costing, cash flow analysis, sunk cost, and learning curve theory. Planning cost management involves determining the policies, procedures, and documentation that will be used for planning, executing, and controlling project cost. The main output of this process is a cost management plan. Estimating costs is a very important part of project cost management. Determining the budget involves allocating costs to individual work items over time. It is important to understand how particular organizations prepare budgets so estimates are made accordingly. Controlling cost includes monitoring cost performance, reviewing changes, and notifying project stakeholders of changes related to cost. Many basic accounting and finance principles relate to cost project management.

Project Human Resources Management is one of the critical knowledge area in Project Management Body of Knowledge. (PMBOK® Guide). It covers the key project management processes such as Plan Human Resource Management, Acquire Project Team, Develop Project Team and Manage Project Team. The entire processes involving setting up the framework for the project human resources management plan, recruiting the competent & suitable project team members, getting the team members to perform and work as one team, and finally ensuring the project team can execute and meet the project goals. It is essential to ensure the consistent project organization structure by minimizing the staff turnover rate throughout the execution stage. Any change of the project team member will actually affect the ongoing project activities in various degree, depend on the roles & responsibilities of the team member. Realizing high stress and demanding project environment, the project manager shall not neglect this knowledge area, to ensure a strong and robust team, in order to achieve the project performance goals.

It will be discussed and interacted during this session. At the end of the session, hopefully, participants will able to appreciate the need and importance of project management.

BIODATA OF SPEAKERS

Ir. Noor Iziddin Abdullah Bin Haji Ghazali (PEPC, CCPM, TTT, PMP) join academic after fourteen (14) years working in various leadership role for the following industries: - semiconductor, property development and ICT. Start working in semiconductor industry with Spansion (AMD & Fujitsu JV) then MIMOS as Product Engineer. Later move to data center development at Cyberjaya for Google, Deutsche Bank, TM, NTT, Petronas, BMW, etc. worth more than USD 50 million. Then attach to Mesiniaga/IBM as the Project Manager for core network using router & switches from Cisco & Juniper. Later with Putrajaya Holdings (Petronas property arm) for green building projects value more than USD 100 million in M&E area. After that as Electrical Manager at Sunway Property overseeing the whole electrical & mechanical projects value more than USD 200 million. Recently with edotco Group (Axiata Group Berhad subsidiary) as the Regional Head overseeing energy efficient projects at Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan & Cambodia and as Program Manager of Radio Access Network Modernization (LTE Advanced & 5G ready) with Celcom vendor (Huawei & Ericsson) worth over USD 200 million. Now as Executive Management Committee, Senate Member, Vice President & Dean of Engineering Faculty in University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering @ Putrajaya.

Ir. Chia Chee Weng, Derick is a Mechanical Engineer graduated from University of Malaya (UM) in 2004, He is a certified Professional Engineer under BEM and also a corporate member with IEM. Currently, he is a committee member of IEM’s Project Management Technical Division. Ir. Derick Chia had more than ten (10) years working experiences with renewable energy and power plant sectors in Malaysia and South East Asia region. He had been involved in managing various power plant projects ranging from a 4.5 MW palm waste biomass power plant project, up to a 1,000 MW coal fired power plant project in this region. His experiences cover engineering, design consultancy, installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and project management services for waste (biomass and incinerator) and coal power plants. Throughout his position as project manager in the power plant projects, Ir. Derick Chia had been actively involved in the tendering & bidding activities, contract administration works, technical coordination meeting and factory / site supervision duties, to ensure the smooth execution of the project.  Now, he run his own project management and engineering consultancy firm, provides the complete range consultancy services from feasibility studies to testing and commissioning for biomass boiler and power plant development projects in Malaysia and South East Asia region.
