SYNOPSIS
Saroma Engineering S/B (since 1975) is a rock-blasting specialist contractor and quarry owner/operator. The company have had undertaken numerous highway and dam projects, notably the North-South Highway, LATAR Highway, Linggiu Dam, Kenyir Dam, Hulu Terengganu Hydroelectric Dam. Currently the company is the specialist subcontractor for two packages in Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway.
The company also specializes in controlled-blasting where vibration & noise must not exceed the permitted limits. Most of the controlled-blasting jobs were executed on turnkey basis i.e. “design-and-blast”. Some reference jobs are: - Putrajaya - LRT trench blasting, KLIA - mass earthwork hard material blasting, Cameron Highland to Gua Musang new road, high-intensity blasting at Melaka Panglima Power Plant.
The company operates several commercial quarries, one of which is situated in Semenyih, Selangor (the targeted site for Technical Visit)
A pre-visit Technical Briefing / Talk shall held at Wisma IEM. The talk shall cover but not limited to following topics:- 1. Planning on development of rock face. 2. Overburden removal. 3. Drill and blast work. (Videos of blasting will be shown) 4. Loading, haulage, crushing plant + sales loading in video (recorded using drone.) 5. Certain common crushing terminologies and jargon. 6. Jaw and cone crushing simulation. (Including schematic crushing plant layout) 7. Authorities compliance: DOE, JKKP and JMG.
At the quarry in Semenyih, participants will see the well-developed rock face, the operation of static crushing plant & mobile heavy machineries. On-site briefing shall be conducted by the company’s mining engineers. Rock blasting and a drone demo will be conducted on site.
Concrete is a more-than-100-year-old engineering material which hitherto has not been replaced by any alternative. Coarse aggregate (crushed granite rock in Malaysia) in a major component of concrete. Engineering specifications / qualities of coarse aggregate are getting more stringent, corresponding to the high-performing concrete used in recent years.
Note: - The visit is strictly limited to only 30 participants registered on a “first-come first-served” basis.
