SYNOPSIS

Industrialisation and modernisation has spread rapidly among Asean countries with Malaysia being no exception. Consequently, this necessitates higher amount and level of design, construction, testing and commissioning, operation and maintenance activities for more development of industrial complexes, business and shopping districts, public transportations, and high-density residential areas. Ultimately, this leads to an exponential growth in complexity of electrical network systems for distribution of power which in turn, fuels the ever-increasing need for electrical safety awareness. Electrical safety has been a concern for all since the time electricity became an essential part in our daily lives. A safe, reliable, economically competitive and environmentally sustainable electrical system is the cornerstone of today’s modern society. Building systems are becoming highly integrated as the industry further embraces sustainable and environmental concepts into design. Newer technologies and highly energy-efficient systems are increasingly becoming integral parts of many buildings. Electrical safety issues related to these technologies and systems are constantly evolving and must not be overlooked. The Energy Commission of Malaysia is comprised of three main roles and functions namely Economic Regulation, Technical Regulation, and Safety Regulation. These regulations were enforced to ensure security, reliability and quality in electricity and piped gas supplies, to promote our national economy in the generation, transmission, distribution, supply and use of electricity and in the reticulation and use of gas, and to protect the public from dangers arising from the generation, transmission, distribution and supply and use of electricity and the supply and use of piped gas. This seminar seeks to present a holistic view of the evolving electrical safety landscape by bringing together regulators, industrial experts, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, building and plant owners, developers, engineering firms, and academic institutions. Ultimately, it shall pave the way forward for enhancement of electrical safety in multiple facets which a rapidly developing nation direly needs.
