SYNOPSIS

Industrialized Building System(IBS) is the way forward towards reducing or dependency on foreign workforce, it has been proven that IBS method of construction has substantial cost saving and improvement on the overall quality of buildings due to components standardization. To avoid construction mismatch careful planning and coordination of design process has to be done at the very early stages of design by engineers and architects.

The requirements of system loading, routes of services, location of equipment, spaces for services, anchoring and structural requirements has to be determined earlier so that all designers will be able identify and cater for system loadings. There were numerous problem related to the lack of initial coordination which delayed or contributed to the smooth construction of IBS method of Construction. This talk will highlight the potential areas to be given attention by M&E engineers so that construction delays due to these factors and poor coordination can be eliminated.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Gopal Narian Kutty holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours), Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Strathclyde, Scotland. He also holds a Masters in Science from UMIST (England) in Construction Project Management. He has been attached with Public Works Department of Malaysia for the past 27 years and has involved in many constructions of Industrialized Building System (IBS) related buildings. He is currently a Senior Principal Assistant Director of Mechanical Engineering Branch of JKR Malaysia. He is an active member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and a Board Member of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and Fellow member of IEM.
