SYNOPSIS

Artificial Intelligence or A.I. has fascinated humans ever since the start of the information age.  At this moment AI is escaping the realm of unimaginative sci-fi tropes and staking a claim as the forefront of technological progress. A.I. is the quest for superhuman machines that have the flexibility and resourcefulness of human intelligence, but the computational power and resources of machines. Recently we have seen some impressive advances in artificial intelligence, due to the fast progress in computer technology (hardware and software) and also development of more advanced AI algorithms.

This talk will highlight the historical perspective in AI development, the increasing popularity of AI, the challenges and the promises of AI and a discussion of a newer technique i.e artificial neural networks (ANN) s of AI that promises to be more robust than previous techniques.

By and large, machines still need to be programmed for particular tasks, or failing that to be provided with enormous numbers of supervised training examples that pertain largely to a single task. Most AI software remains narrowly engineered, to specific tasks. Hence the takeover of the world by machines (aka the Terminator analogy) is a highly unlikely outcome
