SYNOPSIS
Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) are still existent despite the various measures taken to bring it under control. There are numerous contributing factors that make the process of reducing the spread of pathogens in health care institutions an overwhelming task. Fortunately, new technologies have been introduced to make the task easier and hence, reducing the number of incidents related to HAI. The topic will encompass the role of medical device accessories and consumables in infection control and how today’s innovative designs is revolutionizing current healthcare practices.
SPEAKER’S BIODATA
Ms. Shamila Ariaratnam graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 2000 and completed her Masters of Business Administration from University of Strathclyde in 2008. She started her career with TriSystems Engineering Sdn Bhd in February 2001, as an Engineer spending two (2) years in software programming for the fire and gas as well as shutdown systems for offshore and on-shore platforms. As an engineer tasked with software programming at TriSystems from February 2001 – March 2004, she was also instrumental in establishing Functional Design specifications, Software Design specifications, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures and participating in FATs for various projects. In April 2007 Ms. Shamila joined Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) Sdn Bhd as a Quality Executive. SJMC was rebranded to Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya in October 2009. Beginning July 2014, following an alliance with Ramsay Healthcare, it is now known as Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare Sdn Bhd (RSDH). She has risen from the ranks of an Engineer to my present position as Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department (BME) of RSD Hospitals – Subang Jaya Medical Centre. She has registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia as a Professional Engineer and a corporate member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia
Mr Navarro Rompas graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Aviation Engineering at Amsterdam University of Applied Science and in 2014 obtained his Master’s degree specializing in Business Studies- Strategy from University of Amsterdam. He is currently employed as the Product Manager by Draeger covering the Asean market for hospital consumables and accessories. He is responsible in establishing local strategies and programs to push sales in HC&A. He supports technical and application product knowledge to local sales teams, where he conducts and arrange trainings for sales channel partners and internal sales teams. Prior to this, Mr. Rompas held the Marketing Manager position Draeger based in Indonesia, coordinating the development and implementation of marketing strategies and plans for Dräger Indonesia for our Safety (e.g. Oil & Gas, Mining, Military, Chemical, Fire services segments) & Medical (e.g. Hospital segment) divisions, and ensuring alignment across functions.
